KATHY WINE

As one of the organization’s three co-directors who founded River Action in 1984, Kathy became its Executive Director ten years later and holds the position today. With the mission of fostering the environmental, economic, and cultural vitality of the Mississippi River and its riverfront in the region, River Action led the lighting of the Centennial Bridge, the QC Waterfront Master Plan, Nahant Marsh Master Plan, Mississippi River Design Principles, the QC Water Taxi project, and Ride the River, a 16-60 mile riverfront bike ride through nine cities and two states to raise funds for public access to the river.

The RiverWay Project, begun in 1996, has raised over $15 million for trail improvements, public art, river education, wetland restoration, and clean water programs. It spearheaded the Grand Excursion 2004, the Retain the Rain stormwater program, Explore the River Summer Education, Explore and Seek Scavenger Hunt to QC Wild Places, Floatzilla, Senior RiverWay Golf Cart Tour, Taming of the Slough, QC Wild Places, QC Water Trails, the design of three bike bridges in connection with building 60 miles of riverfront trails, and the QC Flood Resiliency Alliance that coordinates in 13 communities efforts to reduce flood damage. Recently, River Action launched a fundraising campaign to build a bike/pedestrian bridge, First Bridge, a replica of one span of the first 1856 Mississippi railroad bridge in Davenport.
