Joan Flecksing

As the Director of the Meskwaki Nation Dept. of Natural Resources, Joan supports the natural resources management and environmental health of Tribal lands, for the Meskwaki Nation, The People of the Red Earth. Raised in agriculture in rural Iowa, Joan has served in Conservation Management professionally, since 1999. Her education entails an AAS from Kirkwood Community College of Natural Resources, a BS from Upper IA University in Conservation Management and Public Administration, and an MPA from Drake University. Joan also holds a Certification of Public Management from Drake University.

Joan’s early career began as a farm hand on a llama farm from age 12-17, where she managed a 40+ head llama operation. She would go on the serve as the Park Manager at Pleasant Creek State Recreation Area, located near Palo, Iowa, for the IA DNR, from 2001 to 2017, as well as a co-owner of a 130 head Bison operation. Joan also served as the Director of Operations at Matthew 25, and the COO at the National Czech and Slovak Museum, both of Cedar Rapids. Joan is the mother of two, Olivia and Dominic, and resides with her husband and son in Walford, IA, where you will most often find her playing catch with Rover, the Red Labrador, and Hazel, the Border Collie.
