Chris Jones

Iowa City resident Chris Jones retired from the College of Engineering at the University of Iowa in 2023 after spending his career studying contaminant hydrology in agricultural landscapes. Prior to the University of Iowa, he also worked at the Des Moines Water Works and the Iowa Soybean Association. He is the author of The Swine Republic, Struggles with the Truth About Agriculture and Water Quality. The book was chosen as Iowa’s representative in the 2024 Library of Congress National Book Festival. Dr. Jones has also published 65 scientific journal articles along with several book chapters and magazine articles and writes a regular column on Substack. He was the 2026 Democratic candidate for Iowa Secretary of Agriculture.
