MARK DIXON
Mark Dixon is a landscape ecologist who studies forests in river floodplains, with a particular focus on the effects of floods and river management on cottonwood forests and their biota. His work over the last 20 years has been on the Missouri River, but he has also conducted research on other rivers, including the San Pedro River in Arizona. This is his 19th year at the University of South Dakota, where he teaches courses in ecology and biostatistics, team-teaches a course called Introduction to River Studies, and he is a faculty affiliate of the Missouri River Institute. Previous to his time at USD, he worked a postdoctoral researcher at Arizona State University and studied at the University of Wisconsin – Madison for his Ph.D. (studying the Wisconsin River), at South Dakota State University for his M.S., and at Iowa State University for his B.S. in Animal Ecology.
