About the Workshop
Join us on March 1st at Modern Woodman Park for a free Public Flood Preparedness Workshop, hosted by River Action. This workshop is designed to help Quad Cities residents prepare for floods and learn how to respond effectively if disaster strikes.
Before disaster hits, citizens should take steps to protect their homes from flood damage. The workshop will feature vendors showcasing flood defense products and demonstrating proper floodproofing techniques. The Army Corps of Engineers will conduct a sandbagging tutorial to teach community members how to properly fill and place sandbags to mitigate flood risk.
City representatives from the Quad Cities and Buffalo, IA, will be on hand to provide resources, answer questions, and share floodplain maps to help residents understand and implement floodproofing measures.
Additionally, first responders will provide vital information for those affected by extreme weather events. Representatives from the Red Cross, Salvation Army, Medical Reserve Corps (MRC), and Volunteers in Police (VIP) will discuss their services and volunteer opportunities. Werner Restoration will also be present to offer expertise on water damage restoration.
