"Roll Out the Barrels" is not just an event; it's a movement to create a lasting impact on our rivers, streams, and communities. This year, we rolled out 400 rain barrels on Earth Day, April 22nd, 2024. A huge THANK YOU to everyone who participated in this event!
Why Rain Barrels Matter
Every Drop Counts: Each gallon of rainwater collected is a step towards cleaner rivers, protected basements, and a healthier environment. Rain barrels intercept rain before it becomes polluted with harmful chemicals from various sources, contributing to the overall well-being of our waterways.
Conservation and Flood Prevention: By capturing rainwater, these barrels play a crucial role in water conservation and lowering flood levels in local rivers and streams. They reduce runoff, alleviating the strain on storm sewers and preventing potential flooding disasters.
Versatile Water Usage: Collected rainwater isn't just a resource; it's a solution. Use it to irrigate lawns and gardens, water landscape beds, or even for everyday tasks like car washing. Rain barrels offer a sustainable water source for various needs.
How it Works
A simple yet effective system, a diverter attached to your rain gutter channels rainwater into a 60-gallon barrel. Connect a garden hose, and when the barrel is full, flip the diverter to let the hose cater to your specific needs.
