Upper Mississippi River Conference coming Oct. 18-19 – Register online today

The 2023 Upper Mississippi River Conference – Building Community Around The River – will focus on collaboration and achieving balance between the Mississippi River's environmental, economic and social frameworks.

The goal is to engage every community member, no matter their position, on the benefits of a riverfront community and what we can do as stakeholders. This will be done through educational lectures, discussions, field trips and workshops at the conference.

2016 UMRC Action Agenda released

This year's Upper Mississippi River Conference focused on "Raising the Grade" of the Mississippi River.

It gathered river stakeholders for a variety of presentations and focus groups along seven tracks: transportation, ecosystems, flood control and risk reduction, recreation, energy, water supply and gulf hypoxia.

The Action Agenda is the plan for us to start "Raising the Grade!"

2016 Upper Mississippi River Conference to focus on AWI Report Card on river watershed

"Raising the Grade" is the theme for the 9th Annual Upper Mississippi River Conference (UMRC), which will be held in October and focus on the health of the Mississippi River watershed and what can be done to improve water quality.

The "Report Card for the Mississippi River Watershed," released last October by America's Watershed Initiative (AWI), rated the condition of the overall watershed as D+.

Dr. Heath Kelsey to keynote Upper Mississippi River Conference – 'Raising the Grade'

Dr. Heath Kelsey will deliver the keynote address at River Action's 9th Annual Upper Mississippi River Conference "Raising the Grade."

Kelsey is program director of Integration and Application Network, a group of scientists focusing on scientific synthesis and communication based at the University of Maryland.

Dr. Kelsey has developed ecosystem health report cards for numerous coastal and inland aquatic systems, including Australia's Great Barrier Reef, Coastal India and Chesapeake Bay. He earned his MSPH and doctorate in Environmental Health Sciences at the University of South Carolina.

River Action is excited to bring Dr. Kelsey to the UMRC to talk about the work he did for the Report Card for the Mississippi River Watershed, produced by America's Watershed Initiative (AWI).
