PARKING/ACCESS
Refuge office is on County Road X61 about 5 miles outside of Wapello. There are multiple access points. Directions, maps and a refuge brochure can be downloaded by clicking on the brochure link below.

SITE AMENITIES
Visitor information available at office Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hiking trails, water trail, fishing, hunting, three boat ramps, wildlife observation and photography. Two observation decks with scopes are available.

HOURS
Office is open Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Refuge is open sunrise to sunset daily. However, some parts of the refuge are closed in the fall as it is a waterfowl sanctuary from September 15 to January 1.

SPECIAL EVENTS
May event called "Go Wild, Go Birding, Go Hiking.

SITE CHARACTERISTICS
Mississippi River and Iowa River wildlife habitat and natural area. Waterfowl, warblers and other songbirds, wading birds, turtles and frogs, deer, eagles.
